What is Masala Chai ?
Masala Chai simply means "tea with spice" and is served throughout India in homes, cafes and roadside stands through out the country. It is combined with warm milk and honey to create an aromatic and invigorating treat. Our Traditional Chai combines 10 exotic spices with flowery darjeeling tea to create a full bodied and smooth cup. Chai can be served hot or as a refreshing iced drink.

Masala Chai Company was one of the first purveyors of Chai to Americans. The company was started in 1980 by Raphael Reuben and Susan Beardsley. Reuben was introduced to Chai in the seventies through his work in Hindu ashrams in New York and California. He made the beverage for family and friends. They enjoyed it so much that he found himself getting more and more requests for Chai than he could make in his small kitchen. At that point Raphael and Susan decided to take the plunge into small business to produce and distribute Chai to restaurants and coffee houses throughout Santa Cruz, California. At that time the beverage was new to the American public, but by 1990, with a lot of hard work and commitment, the company started to expand at a breath-taking pace. In 1995, Reuben and Beardsley decided to sell the food service portion (one gallon bottles) of their business to Sun Chai and to concentrate on products for retail businesses.
Masala Chai Company now distributes its original Chai and its new line of Herbal Elixir Chai products to many stores throughout the country.
The products are produced in small batches to ensure freshness and superior quality. Bottled Chai is made the old fashioned way, with whole spices, choice darjeeling tea and filtered water. We are Chai fanatics and want our Chai to continue to be the best that you have ever tasted. We are committed to providing prompt service and individual attention to all of our customers. Masala Chai Co.'s Male and Female Energy tonics represent a symbiosis of Traditional Indian and Chinese herbalism. Chinese tonic herbs have played an integral part in maintaining good health for thousands of years by the Chinese. They are said to be energy food and can be taken on a daily basis to cleanse out toxins and to revitalize the life-force within the body's systems. We have selected seventeen of the most highly regarded tonic herbs and mixed them with our Indian Masala Chai to create a delicious and harmonizing drink.
AphroTEAsiac Chai is available in quart bottles, or in a loose-spice-blend that yields 1 gallon after preparation.
This formula is a combination of St. John's Wort, also known as "Nature's Prozac" because it may diminish signs of depression, and Ginkgo leaf, which is known to increase blood circulation to the brain, thus improving memory and mental function.
Our newest formulation combines the adaptogenic and immune boosting properties of the Reishi mushroom and Siberian Ginseng with the anti-oxidant properties of Green Tea. Reishi has held a mythic status in China since antiquity and was regarded by Taoist Sages as "the mushroom of immortality". Modern studies have indicated a wide range of health benefits that may derive from the regular usage of this herb.
